How to Clean Your Bunn Coffee Pot: Step by Step

Cleaning your Bunn coffee pot regularly will not only make sure that the coffee tastes great but also prolongs the machine’s life. Mineral layers, coffee oils, and dirt accumulate over time and make your coffee maker taste and work worse. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to clean your Bunn coffee pot.

    What you will need

    • water
    • white vinegar (or a de scaler)
    • a soft cloth or sponge
    • a toothbrush
    • mild dish soap.
    • Baking soda is optional, but it works great on tough spots

    1. Shut off the coffee maker and unplug it.

To keep yourself safe, shut off and unplug the Bunn coffee pot you want to clean. Let it cool down first if it’s hot.

    2. Clean out the coffee maker’s carafe

Your coffee machine is where the oils and stains from the coffee will settle to the bottom.

How to clean your Bunn Coffee pot

    3. Clean the carafe

Step 1: Take the pitcher out of the coffee machine and pour out as much coffee as you can.

Step 2: Wash it in warm water with a little soap or light dish soap until there are no more sudsy spots using a soft sponge.

Step 3: Scrub the carafe with a damp cloth or sponge after adding a little baking soda to get rid of tough coffee stains.

Step 4: Rinse warm water over the carafe to remove any soap or baking soda residue.

    4. Let the Carafe dry

Step 1 : Wipe the carafe clean with a clean, dry cloth or allow it to air dry upside down.

Step 2: Wipe down the filter basket

This is where coffee grounds build up, so you have to clean it pretty often to remove the buildup that could alter the flavor of your coffee.

    5.  Clean the basket holding the filter

Step 1: Remove the coffee maker’s filter basket and discard the spent coffee grounds.

Step 2: Use a sponge and warm, soapy water to clean the filter box. For small spots where coffee grounds might build up, a brush or toothbrush can help loosen them up.

To keep the coffee from going bad, rinse the filter basket with soapy water in the third step.

    6.  Drying the Filter Basket

Wipe it down with a clean cloth or let it dry fully so air can flow through it.

    7. Getting the water tank clean

It’s where your coffee water sits. Mineral buildup, also known as scale layer, will happen after months of use. This is because, let’s face it, some people live in places with very hard water, and cleaning your machine is important for getting the best coffee taste and performance.

    8. Clean the reservoir, also called “descaling the reservoir”

Step 1: Fill the tank with 50% white vinegar and 50% water. If you can’t find descaling solution, you can get it at almost any store.

Step 2: Pour water into the coffee machine and start the make cycle. Stop the machine when it gets to the carafe.

Step 3: Let the vinegar solution soak into the equipment for 15 minutes. This will help the minerals dissolve.

Step 4 : Run the brew cycle one final time after 15 minutes to make your last brew.

Step 5: After the vinegar solution has finished brewing, drain the machine and run two or three full rounds of clean water through it to eliminate any vinegar taste.

    9. The development of hard scales

If mineral buildup is strongly present, you can again add the vinegar solution or set it in the tank for some hours before initiating the brewing cycle.

    10. Clean the shower head’s spray head.

    Sprayer-head or Showerhead

The spray head is the point of contact where hot water in a coffee maker crosses with the grounds. That is where oils in coffee and mineral deposits mix up together to cause buildups, which might make your house coffee machine less effective in addition to altering the flavor.

    How to clean spray-head

Step1:  Switch off the device, and unplug it.

Step 2: Use a toothbrush or a soft cloth to clean the dust spray head. Use a wet cloth or a toothbrush dipped in warm soapy water to remove mineral buildup.

Step 3: Use the stick or cotton swab to clean up the debris in a small area.

    11. Outside Clean

Outside of your Bunn coffee machine will bear dirt, spills, and even fingerprints. The beauty of the coffee brewer’s design will shine through if you clean the outside.

    Cleaning the Outside

Step 1: Wet a clean, damp cloth and add some mild dish soap. Then rub the outside of your coffee pot gently to remove all dirt or grime.

Step 2: Use a mild all-purpose cleaner on tough spots. Do not use abrasive cleaners because they can scratch the surface.

Step 3: Use a soft, dry towel to dry the outside so that there are no water spots.

Step 4: The final test of rinse and brew

It is a good idea to brew a pot after cleaning everything to make sure there is no cleaning dust left over.

Step 1: Fill the tank with fresh water.

Step 2: Run a brew cycle with no coffee grounds to very thoroughly rinse the machine, and you will also make sure it works right for you after cleaning.

How to Maintain your Bunn Coffee Pot so it lasts longer

    Clean frequently

If you use your coffee maker daily, then you should clean it at least once a week. Cleaning the coffee maker often prevents oils and minerals from building up.

    Use filtered water

If you use filtered or purified water, then minerals will not build up as much, and it will be easy to clean and last longer.

    Dry it

Keep your Bunn coffee pot dry when you are not using it by keeping it in a place that will not get wet.

Change the filter every so often

If you have a fixed filter, you need to clean it each time you use it. If you use paper filters, you need to get new ones each time you brew.

It is very essential to clean your Bunn coffee maker so that the coffee always tastes fresh and the machine lasts longer. These are only for cleaning the outside, the pitcher, the filter basket, the water reservoir, and the water reservoir. This will keep the coffee machine in good shape and make great coffee every day. Your Bunn coffee machine will thank you for taking care of it so that you can enjoy fresh coffee.
